DENSO Corporation, Toray Industries, Nomura Research Institute, Honda Motor Co., MATEC and REVER Corporation have established the BlueRebirth Council. The Council will build a manufacturing and recycling integrated value chain to realize Car-to-Car recycling. It will begin with automated precision dismantling to recover and recycle materials from end-of-life vehicles (ELVs).
The automotive industry continues to shift toward a circular economy to support a sustainable society. However, the industry still relies on ELV shredding and material sorting, which prevents high-purity material recovery. Collaboration between manufacturing and recycling has fallen short. As a result, automakers struggle to secure high-quality recycled materials for mass production. At the same time, the recycling industry faces workforce shortages and lacks digital transformation.
Aiming to Build a Recycled Materials Manufacturing Industry
The BlueRebirth Council said it aims to transform the current model by 2035. It plans to develop the automotive recycling industry into a recycled materials manufacturing industry. This evolution will form a new resource-circulating value chain. Through this vision, the Council will promote a true Car-to-Car recycling model.
